Birmingham Zoo Gala 2011 – A Kathy G Feast with the Beasts!!!

Kathy G and Company was honored to, once again, cater the Birmingham Zoo Gala this past Saturday night, September 19. The annual “black tie optional” event attracts the Magic City’s finest as hundreds of guests gather to raise funds for (in our opinion) the greatest zoo in all the South!!! This year’s event was as fun as ever with plenty of furry visitors for the guests to meet up close as well as a sit-down dinner overlooking the Trails of Africa’s wonderful new elephant exhibit.

With the affair’s overall design created by Andy Hopper and the team at KG Designs, the was looking gorgeous at 6:30 kickoff.

The night began with cocktails in the Hugh Kaul Children’s Zoo with three bar areas and several food tables.  Here attendees were treated to a wide array of Kathy G Hors D’oeuvres including mini BLTs, Grilled Chicken Tostinis with Fava Bean Pesto, and a delicious assortment of cheeses from around the world.

After 90 minutes of mingling,  guests were transported via the Zoo’s locomotives, The Red Diamond Express and The Birmingham Zoo Express, to a seated dinner in Trails of Africa at 8pm.

After a first course of Bibb Lettuce Salad with Grilled Peaches, Spiced Pecans, & French Vinaigrette, Kathy G’s executive chef Jason Mezrano then wowed guests with an entree of Grilled Beef Tenderloin over Saffron Risotto, and Asparagus with Meyer Lemon-chive Buerre Blanc Sauce.

It was a wonderful night and we truly were thrilled to play such a big role. Special thanks to the Birmingham Zoo and the dozens of Kathy G & Company staff members who executed the event with precision and excellence.
