When choosing a feather, go for dark shades such as deep teal, ox blood, chocolate brown or black. To mix it up for a less traditional feel, choose a variety of colors and sizes of feathers. In these arrangements, we went with faux pheasant feathers in shades of brown. Feathers of many sizes and colors can be found at your local craft store.

To get the base of your arrangement to look like a birch tree truck, simply wrap your vase with a roll of birch bark. Rolls of birch bark can be found at a wholesale florist or a floral supply store.

When using birch and feathers, you can incorporate these elements in so many ways – the sky is the limit. Use feathers on your holiday invitations or cards. For a sit down dinner, place a feather on top of each guest’s napkin and tie them together with a burlap ribbon. Cut the birch wood into squares and use them for coasters or stamp them to use as place cards.
