Kathy G’s Helpful Holiday Design Tips: Hypnotic Hypericums

During this season of holiday cheer, touches of red and green are a classic and timeless way to decorate. Red berry hypericums are small in size, yet rich in color. Adding these berries to your holiday florals will make your decor merry and bright! Red roses make a fabulous flower choice for holiday centerpieces. By surrounding red roses with hypericums, you can transform a classic centerpiece into an interesting masterpiece! For a more edgy spin on a classic look, use levels and different shapes of vases for your arrangements. Another beautiful holiday flower choice is the combination of white roses and calla lillies. By adding red hypericum berries or other festive berries to pure, white florals, you will really get a splash of holiday color in your arrangements.   Red berry hypericum, roses and other berries and florals can be purchased at your local wholesale...

Kathy G’s Helpful Holiday Design Tips: Branch Out and Let It Snow

This holiday season, let it snow, let it snow, let it snow! By using long bare branches cascading with white florals or crystals you can give your home a snowy, wintry feel and your guests a warm welcome. Start with a vase. We used a clear cylindrical vase but any number of colors or shapes will do. You can fill the bottom of the vase with river rocks, marbles, crystals or leave it bare. Fill the vase with water. Stick the branches out of the top of a vase. We love to use branches both long and short. Using a variety adds depth and dimension. Use fishing line to hang the stemless white flowers or crystals. Tie the fishing line to the branch, move down about 2-3 inches, and thread your flower or crystal with the fishing line, then tie a knot where you threaded it to hold it in place. Repeat until you have your desired look. Make this project fun – don’t stress about making it look perfect up-close. From afar, your stemless flowers and/or crystals will look like they are falling out of the sky! Another idea is to do the same look with ornaments for a more themed holiday feel. **All supplies can be found at your local craft store or floral...

Kathy G’s Helpful Holiday Design Tips: Moss and Candles

The holiday season brings chilly weather, warm clothes and bare plants. The question is – how do you translate that to indoor decor? The answer – moss and candles. Not only is moss the perfect color to represent the holidays, its also a very natural color that is reflective of the wintery state of nature. Candles, on the other hand, are warm and inviting. They also add a glimmer of sparkle to a room and convey sense of calm. The smell of candles can also help you set the mood for parties or for welcoming houseguests. Pairing the moss and candles will give your home or event a dynamic rustic, yet intimate feel! Moss can be incorporated in several different ways. The first is to use moss balls, which come in several different sizes. Moss balls look fabulous sitting on top of candelabras, as vase fillers and as accent pieces sitting in clusters on a buffet or table. Another way is to use moss blocks. Stacking moss blocks gives depth and dimension to a design. They are great to stack treats or party favors on top of or to give dimension to photographs, collectables or holiday decorations. A third way to incorporate moss is to use loose moss. When moss is broken up and scattered around it conveys simplistic, natural beauty. It can be used at the base of a centerpiece or scattered on a table. For a plated, seated dinner, seating assignment cards sit beautifully atop a moss-scattered table. To give the rustic feel of the moss a more elegant touch, add candles. The glow of candles creates a warm, inviting atmosphere. It also adds a gleam of holiday spirit! You can incorporate candles through small votives, hanging lanterns or thick...

Kathy G’s Helpful Holiday Design Tips: Feathers and Birch

Kathy G’s Helpful Holiday Design Tips: Feathers and Birch

Floral design for the holidays can get tricky. With many florals in spring in summer tones, it is often a challenge to give floral arrangements a warm, wintery feel. This holiday season, try incorporating feathers and birch into your arrangements! These elements are both inexpensive and easy to work with. By working these elements into your holiday design, you will get sophisticated, elegant arrangements that will be sure to WOW holiday guests! When choosing a feather, go for dark shades such as deep teal, ox blood, chocolate brown or black. To mix it up for a less traditional feel, choose a variety of colors and sizes of feathers. In these arrangements, we went with faux pheasant feathers in shades of brown. Feathers of many sizes and colors can be found at your local craft store. To get the base of your arrangement to look like a birch tree truck, simply wrap your vase with a roll of birch bark. Rolls of birch bark can be found at a wholesale florist or a floral supply store. When using birch and feathers, you can incorporate these elements in so many ways – the sky is the limit. Use feathers on your holiday invitations or cards. For a sit down dinner, place a feather on top of each guest’s napkin and tie them together with a burlap ribbon. Cut the birch wood into squares and use them for coasters or stamp them to use as place...

Kathy G’s Red Carpet Celebrity Roast

In honor of the fabulous Kathy G’s birthday, a red carpet celebrity roast was thrown! From the delectable décor to the glitzy sparkles that filled the room, the evening was a star-studded event. There were even some celebrities among the guests – Marilyn Monroe, The Blue’s Brothers and James Bond all made appearances at the event. The evening was filled with glamour and full of surprises to entertain the guests. The most glamorous of all, was Ms. Kathy G herself! Kathy was dressed from head to toe in fun fuchsia and sparkles. Her sassy skirt and diamond studded heels and accessories gave the outfit the perfect pizzazz for a birthday girl! The scene was set for a magical night of fabulous fun. WorkPlay Sound Stage was dressed in fuchsia, black and silver. A long red carpet, provided by Event Rentals Unlimited (ERU), ran through the room, bringing in a celebrity feel. A.G. Lighting provided fuchsia lighting, a star-lit pattern on the dance floor and a follow spotlight for all of the evening’s entertainment. The fully silver sequined and fuchsia rosette tablecloths from Nuage sat atop alternating rectangle high-boy and circular tables from Event Rentals Unlimited. ERU also provided beautiful chaivari bar stools and Lucite ghost chairs for the tables, the fuchsia lit truss bars and the fuchsia lit floating tables. The AV equipment, microphone, DJ capabilities and Photobooth were all compliments of the fabulous JAMM Entertainment. A silver glitter chandelier ice sculpture, by Chef David Bromley, adorned one of the truss bars. The design and floral was done by non-other than, KG Designs. Kathy G & Company catered the event with a fabulous menu that combined Kathy’s Lebanese culture, Asian culture and some famous Kathy G & Company favorites.  The mini meal station had a selection of Crawfish & Shrimp Cakes, Grilled Ahi Tuna Kabobs and Sushi. The main display was a Tuscan Table that featured Marinated Kalamata Olives, Artichoke and Feta Salad, a Cheese Display with a selection of toppings, Israeli Cous Cous Salad, Turkey Pitas, Heirloom Tomato Summer Salad and a selection of Crostini, Grilled Bruschetta, Pita Chips and Homemade Parmesan Chips with Mediterranean toppings that included Tapenade, Mission Fig Puree with Herbed Goat Cheese, Hummus and more. The Lebanese table contained Rolled Grape Leaves, Lebanese Meat Pies, Baked Kibbe, Lamb Meatballs, Grilled Chicken and Conech Sausage Kabobs and Tabooli-Parsley Salad on Endive Leaves. Some of the delectable foods were presented on Kathy G & Company’s famous “floating table.” The tabletop was made from a clear piece of Lucite that was supported by fuchsia pedestals. The “floating table” was the focal point of the room and was adorned with fabulous representations of the party – good food, fun atmosphere and lots of fuchsia and glitz. A specialty cocktail, named after the guest of honor, was served. The “G-tini,” St. Germain, Grey Goose and splash of club soda, was adorned with a fuchsia glow stick. After greeting her guests as they arrived, Kathy G made her grand entrance. A red Harley Davidson motorcycle sped down the red carpet with Kathy riding side saddle on the back. The motorcycle drove her right to the stage where her queen-like roast chair, from Classic Events, was waiting. The crowd cheered as the roast began. Friends from childhood and beyond, KG team members and her kids were among the roasters. Lots of laughs and sweet memories were shared. Following the roast, Chris and Emily Bailey, of Bailey Dance Studio, performed a routine to “Time of My Life.” The couple, who are national dance competitors, were exceptional. With flawless dips and lifts, the...
