Kirby and Ridge’s Garden Wedding

On a beautiful June Sunday, Kirby Cross and Ridge Willcutt exchanged vows at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens. The couple was surrounded by natural blooming buds and beautiful pastel arrangements by Fairview Florist. Under a flower covered archway, the couple said, “I do” and walked down a flower bouquet lined isle into a happy future. Immediately following the ceremony, the couple, along with guests, celebrated the marriage with a beautiful indoor / outdoor reception. The Garden’s Café by Kathy G was the perfect spot for the wedding reception. The café both kept guests out of the summer showers (a wedding day sign of good luck) while still providing a covered outdoor option to enjoy the Botanical Gardens! The happy pinks and lavenders in the arrangements and décor mirrored the happy couple’s blissful demeanor. The bride and groom chose a delightful luncheon menu, packed with tasty Kathy G & Company favorites! Chili Glazed Shrimp with Mango Salsa and Smoked Turkey on Orange Muffins with Orange Marmalade gave the menu an organic, summer feel. A selection of savory Mini Tarts were available with topping selections such as Roasted Tomato and Feta, Vidalia Onion and Gruyere, and Spinach and Parmesan. Beef Tenderloin on Assorted Cocktail Rolls with Horseradish Sauce and Pecan Crusted Chicken Tenders with Honey Mustard Dipping Sauce were also on the menu for guests to enjoy. The seasonal fruit display cascaded with ripe Grapes, Pineapple, Honey Dew and assorted Berries of striking summer colors. Kirby and Ridge chose a fun drink selection that included a wide variety for guests to choose from.  The Spa Waters were infused with Lemon, Lime and Orange, and Cucumber and Mint flavors, adding a refreshing, summer twist! Mint Iced Tea, Shirley Temple’s and Kir Royale’s were also served. For the wedding cake, the bride had a cream dot cake adorned with elegant, edible roses. The groom put a spin on the traditional chocolate cake by choosing cupcakes that were marked with a “W” for the couple’s last name. Congratulations, Kirby and Ridge! We enjoyed celebrating your magical, summer celebration with you!       Ceremony: Birmingham Botanical Gardens Reception: Garden’s Café by Kathy G Catering: Kathy G & Company Florist: Fairview Florist Design: KG Designs Photographer: Janet Wilson Cakes: Edgar’s Harpist: Marsha Gunter Band: Shades Creek Chamber...

Melissa and Neil’s Wedding at the Garden’s Cafe by Kathy G

Melissa Hennessy and Neil Dougherty celebrated their wedding on Saturday with a reception at The Garden’s Café by Kathy G. The drum major groom and the head majorette bride at their alma matter Auburn University have been making memories as a couple for years, which was beautifully depicted at their June 29th reception. The couple looked to K.G. Designs and Kathy G. & Co. Catering for the event logistics. K.G. Designs created unique centerpieces that told stories about Melissa and Neil’s experiences as a couple. Each centerpiece, rare and picturesque in its own way, painted a portrait of their lives together and gave a glimpse into their happy future. Soft pink roses, baby’s breath and candlelight surrounded each representation of Melissa and Neil. One centerpiece represented the couple’s trip to Ireland where they collected souvenirs that were used in the centerpiece. The Irish fairy tale book, including the story of The Little Mermaid, and the seashells symbolize their expedition and the memories made there. To tie this fairy tale wedding together, Melissa and Neil chose a beautiful white cake adorned with light blue, candied roses by Dreamcakes. Atop was the silhouette of Cinderella and her Prince Charming. Kathy G. & Co., K.G. Designs and The Garden’s Café by Kathy G. wish Melissa and Neil a perfect happily ever after! Gina & Chris’ Big Day

As Egyptian culture calls for, Gina El-Nockrashy and Chris Trammell were wed Friday night but celebrated their marriage with family and friends at a reception on Saturday. The couple’s celebration was held at The Hill Garden at The Birmingham Botanical Gardens. The romantic glow of the misty rain made the beautiful, outdoor reception simply magical! (Scroll through photos to read rest of story at bottom) Kathy G & Company and K.G. Designs, along with A.G. Lighting and Event Rentals Unlimited had the green garden dressed to the nines in all white, silver and candle light. The space was tented in silk white draping tents. In the center of one tent, hung a crystal tiered chandelier that added the perfect splash of glamorous sparkle. Each centerpiece was a combination of pillar candles and antiqued mercury glass of differing heights, shapes and sizes. Delicate white rose and greenery added to the glistening candle lit tables. Each place setting was adorned with a silver charger, crisp white napkin and a custom designed cookie. The cookie was a portrait of an Edelweiss, the flower of Germany. After getting engaged in Munich and the pair’s decision to move to Berlin for their first fifteen months of marriage while Chris earns his MBA, the Edelweiss became a perfect representation of the couple. The Middle Eastern meets Southern cuisine was just what the couple ordered! Combining the backgrounds of the Egyptian bride, Gina and the Southern groom, Chris, guests enjoyed a wide variety of foods from both upbringings. The Kathy G team created a fabulous menu that included five stations filled with both Egyptian and Southern treats! The hors d’ouerve Mezze buffet included Crostini, Grilled Bruschetta, Pita Chips and Lavosh served with Tapenade, Mission Fig Puree with Herbed Goat Cheese, Roasted Red Peppers and Golden Raisins and a Hummus selection. Guest also enjoyed Mini Falafel Balls with Tahini Sauce, Rolled Grape Leaves, Lebanese Meat Pies and Israeli Cous Cous. Homemade Sweet Potato Chips with Vidalia Onion Dipping Sauce, Fried Okra, Mini Gulf Coast Crab Cakes, Fried Green Tomatoes and an Heirloom Tomatoes Summer Salad tied in some Southern charm. The carving table with a selection of meats included a Whole Roasted Lamb cooked over Hickory and Cherry Wood, Herb Crusted Beef Tenderloin, Rosemary and Garlic Studded Roasted Top Round of Lamb accompanied by Rice Pilaf with Pine Nuts and Raisins. The couple’s desert table was no exception to the elaborate culture combining dinner menu. The table was a display of Desert Cheeses with Figs, Grapes and Cherries, Phyllo Pastries that included Baklawa and Halawah with Kaluah Fudge Sauce and Assorted Cake Pops. The breath-takingly elegant four tiered wedding cake by Jan O’Donnell from Wedding Cakes by Jan presented graceful, dainty flower petals that cascaded down the cake. Guests enjoyed a variety of entertainment throughout the evening. During the dinner portion of the reception, LP Trio set the stylish mood with their jazz numbers. Surprise guest artist, belly dancer Aaliyah Harbin, wowed the crowd with her Middle Eastern performance. After the delectable dinner and desert, guests hit the dance floor to rock out The bride and groom said their good-byes at the end of the evening with a sparklers farewell. A vintage car from Coats Cars picked up Gina and Chris for a memorable and chic get...

Courtney & Gary Wed at Rancho de las Aquilas

Kathy G & Company has the honor and privilege of being part of some of the most beautiful and amazing weddings in Birmingham, Alabama.  We would like to take this opportunity to highlight the Swaid & Mince wedding. Courtney Swaid and Gary Mince were married on Saturday March 23 at Rancho de las Aquilas.  Ranchos de las Aquilas is nestled on 45 acres with spectacular natural surroundings. The wedding party enjoyed the Alabama woodlands while overlooking the mountains that provided an extraordinary setting for this particularly unforgettable special event. Andy Hopper AIFD, with KG Designs, took care of all the flowers from the hand-made crystals in the bridesmaids bouquets and the brooch-studded arrangement for the bride, to the stunning centerpieces for the reception and the standing displays at the alter.  Andy really outdid himself.  Rancho de las Aquilas never looked so good. The bride’s “bling” queen style was reflected in everything from her gorgeous dress to the fabulous sequined gold and silver linens.  Courtney sparkled even more with the the beautiful diamond necklace that her father gave her.  As stunning as the bride was, you couldn’t help but notice the adorable flower girls in their feather skirts.  They looked like perfect little angels. After the ceremony, the guests enjoyed Middle-Eastern specialties with family-style service inspired by the bride’s Lebanese father.  The wedding party sat at the estate table while the other guests were seated at round tables in the dining room.  There was an extensive kitchen staff including chefs, sous chefs and cooks to prepare the amazing menu.  Olexa’s provided the stunning wedding cake and Kathy G provided the chocolate table. Stephen Clawson played acoustic music for the reception and Christy, Courtey’s father’s wife, played classical violin.  The photographer was Andrea Orr and we can’t wait to see final photos. We hope the entire wedding party and all of the guests enjoyed attending this wedding as much as we did.   If you would like information about your upcoming wedding, please contact us at (205) 942-4210 or email info@kathyg.com...

Unique Wedding Ideas: KG Designs Puts the Cake on a Swing!

Unique Wedding Ideas: KG Designs Puts the Cake on a Swing!

When Andy Hopper of KG Designs met with bride-to-be Christina several months ago, he immediately knew that her imagination and personality were going to be lots of fun thoughout the planning process.  Soon after their initial bridal consultation commenced, Christina said she wanted a feel of “rich elegance” but it was important that her big day be “very unique.”  Then Christina asked for something that’s never been requested of our team before… She told Andy that she’d love to have her wedding cake on a swing… YES, a swing! First focusing on Christina’s “rich elegance” request, Andy suggested lots of deep purples, bright raspberry and other shades of violet to create a rich monochromatic palette. Making sure the look was both unique and romantic, the team used three gorgeous varieties of orchids (Dendrobuim, Cymbidiums and Vanda) as well as Garden Roses, Hypercium Berry, Hydrangea, and Tulips throughout the elegant wedding design. The vibrant purple florals paired with rich cream and taupe linens meshed perfectly with Design Productions romantic purple lighting effects and made this wedding’s overall look truly spectacular. But the real WOW factor was introduced with Christina’s request that her cake be up on a swing. While it proved to be quite challenging to create, it was the key component and true “pièce de résistance” in the elegant décor. Upon entering the reception area, guests – and even the KG Designs team themselves – were amazed by this incredibly gorgeous swing. Definitely one of the most beautiful weddings KG Designs has created in 2012, we are so thankful for the amazing Anita Kanellis of AK Brides for introducing us to Christina. If you’ve got big dreams for a magical wedding, you can’t go wrong by asking Anita for her assistance. We’re also extremely appreciative of the super-talented Frank Carnaggio for providing us with these stunning photographs. You’re truly one of the very best, Frank! Other wedding pros who made Christina and her groom Phillip’s big day so very perfect in every way were: Ross Bridge Weddings, Birmingham Bridal Carriages, Lighting by Design Productions, Videography by Main Street Productions, Joyce’s Formals Salon, and of course, Wedding Cakes by Jan O’Donnell. Unique Weding Ideas: “Rustic Chic” Design Utilizes Lots of Gorgeous Raw Cotton

When wedding planner Kerri Kelley of Kerri Kelley Weddings introduced the KG Designs team to the gorgeous Southern Belle, Katie, we immediately knew her wedding was gonna be something special.  Katie explained that she and her groom, Eric, wanted their B&A Warehouse wedding to have a specific “Rustic Chic” look and feel and she definitely wanted to integrate lots of raw cotton into her florals.  Her bouquet, the bridesmaids bouquets, centerpieces, you name it… Beleive it or not, her mom actually hand-picked all the cotton used in the design at a friend’s farm in New Market, AL.  From there, Andy Hopper and his team of floral artisans at KG Designs took over over in creating a beautiful Southern fairytale wedding. But the gorgeous wedding design didn’t stop at just raw cotton.  Other flowers utilized in the bouquets and decor were: stunning black and white anemones as well as bright yellow crespedia. Another big element to Katie’s dream design was romantic candlelight. She wanted the event to “feel like a candlelit barn party in the heart of the city.” To complete the “Rustic Chic” barn party look, the KG Designs team hung several large wrought iron chandeliers and utilized mason jars – both suspended from above and placed on table tops – along with numerous black candelabras and hundreds of romantic white candles all across the vast warehouse space. It truly was a gorgeous event – captured fabulously by our super-talented friends at Little Acorn Photography. We truly can’t thank them enough for the incredible images you see here. To see even more gorgeous “Rustic Chic” images from Katie and Eric’s big day, please visit our facebook gallery HERE.    ...

KG Designs Works Magic for a True Southern Destination Wedding at Alys Beach

KG Designs Works Magic for a True Southern Destination Wedding at Alys Beach

One year ago today, Emily and Blaine said “I Do” in a romantic ceremony with gorgeous florals and decor created by KG Designs… But it wasn’t without a few curveballs thrown in by Mother Nature as a storm blew in just prior to the big event – forcing the team to quickly reset from the beach, up the hill and under a tent at Fonville Press.  Though a little rain could hardly dampen the mood or dull the warm pastel pinks, blues, and greens that made up the color palette for Emily’s stunning elegant design. One of the most beautiful bouquets KG Designs put together in 2011 was also one of the simplest in concept. Pastel pink tulips – lots of tulips – created a classic clutch that was 100% Southern and, to this day, has KG Designs brides requesting a similar look and feel for their bridal bouquets. As for the beach ceremony design – It was upscale, intimate and clean.  It broke our hearts that the rains moved in though lucky for us, we were able to finish the set-up in time for a fabulous photo shoot by Birmingham’s Daniel Taylor Photography. Once the weather turned, the team had to work ever-so-quickly to breakdown and reset under the cover of a tent. Rain or no rain, Emily and Blaine’s wedding was one for the ages and we can’t stress enough how wonderful it was to work with so many great wedding pros. Every moment was captured on video by Birmingham’s incredible Lance Holloway Productions; Cupcakes as delicious as they were beautiful were by Dreamcakes; The super-talented hair and make-up team was Joyce’s Formals salon; And Emerald Coast Catering cooked up several delectable dishes for the 50 hungry guests. Of course none of this would have been possible without Meghan Cease of M Elizabeth Events. Her tireless planning and nerves of steel proved bullet-proof when the weather turned – Helping everyone remain calm and execute the wedding flawlessly. Happy Anniversary, Emily and Blaine… May you live happily ever after. To see more amazing photos of this wedding by Daniel Taylor Photography, please visit our facebook gallery HERE.  ...

Kathy G Venue Spotlight: J&D Farms

Kathy G Venue Spotlight: J&D Farms

On a recent overcast early Spring morning, the Kathy G & Company team had the pleasure of paying a visit to J&D Farms – A privately owned 40-acre farm that sits conveniently on the outskirts of Etowah County, and just 15 minutes from Historic Downtown Gadsden. Upon exiting the freeway, the stressors of fast pace living began to fade away quickly. Shadow-casting oak trees, beautiful wild flower blossoms everywhere you looked, lovely orchards, and morning-lit creeks guided us on our short but scenic route before we soon arrived at this most amazing venue, J&D Farms!   At first glance, you may just see a field, a barn and some fruit bearing trees with the fog slowly lifting. By the time you shake hands with humble, salt-of-the-earth owner, Danny McEachern, and begin to explore with him, one is completely captivated. With each step of the beautiful property, you sense the charm while the sun begins to pour over the quaint orchard. As he guides you through the barn and each and every nook therein, you can see the love and thought that went into the build of this awe-inspiring venue with a small-town feel . When we visited, even neighbors were pitching in to help tidy up the farm for the next weekends’ event – Truly a labor of love! The venue boasts several options for setup. The ceremony can be one of three places: (1) The orchard, a heavenly carved out setting where a break in the center of the trees makes a God made natural altar, (2) On the lawn in front of the barn using the gorgeous barn doors as your backdrop or, (3) Inside the barn for a quaint rustic feel. As for the reception, while inside the barn seems most logical, your guests and seating can easily spill over into the surroundings of the barn where you’ll also find a vegetable garden in the works – Perfect for farm to table dinners or receptions. One other thing we found endearing is that the couple never intended to offer their “home” as a venue. Like many of us, passionate in this industry, they “fell into the wedding business” and it has now become a way for others to benefit! As professional photographers, Danny and his wife always saw the beauty of his family farm, so one day on a whim the couple hosted a close relative’s wedding there and the rest is history! With promise and possibility, Danny hopes that J&D Farms will attract those who want to start their love story here. He has been listening and responding to couples’ wishes for the perfect venue – Trying to grant any and every request, but want to be sure to protect the integrity of the farm so that, for years to come, every couple can enjoy the romance, beauty and tranquility the property provides. Truly, it’s a destination wedding locale!  There may even be plans to have a honeymoon cottage (which is now their own delightfully quaint and inviting home), on site…But shhhhh, that’s a secret for now! All in all, we think J&D Farms is just perfect for the fairytale wedding every girl dreams of! And if ever there was a venue for a “Farm to Table” wedding – This is it! KG Designs and Kathy G & Co. Bring their “A-Game” to Tara & Jason’s Gardens Cafe Wedding

Saturday, April 21 was a glorious day in Birmingham, Alabama.  The sun was shining, the birds were singing and a gorgeous young couple, Tara and Jason, said “I do” in the Hill Garden located in the Birmingham Botanical Gardens.  The setting was perfect for the vibrant garden wedding Tara had always envisioned while the KG Designs team added all the right floral elements utilizing bright oranges along with rich hues of purple and green to pull it all together. On the catering side, Tamara Archer of Kathy G & Company acted at Tara and Jason’s event coordinator for their Gardens Cafe reception – And the results of her tireless work were nothing short of fabulous. The menu consisted of several Kathy G favorites, including a server attended SHRIMP AND GRITS STATION with fresh Gulf Shrimp slow simmered in Creole Sauce and served over Southern Style White Cheddar Grits in a cosmo glass. Other delicious items served to the nearly 175 guests were: Honey Maple Ham on White Cheddar Biscuits with Orange Butter; Pecan-Crusted Chicken Bites with Honey Mustard Dipping Sauce; Kathy G’s famous Mini BLT’s with Apple-Smoked Bacon, Arugula & Roma Tomato Topped with Remoulade Sauce; and Vertical Vegetable Crudite with Dips of Pimento Cheese, Hummus & Ranch. So many great Alabama wedding pros helped this wedding run flawlessly, but we must thank Hali and Micah of H+M Photo for the stunning photos seen in this posting. And we can’t thank Tara and Jason enough for allowing us to play such an integral role in their big day. It was such a magical afternoon… May you live happily ever after!...
