Simply Wed, a bridal studio, opened its doors to brides with a grand opening party at its Homewood shop. Wedding industry pros Meghan Cease of M. Elizabeth Events, Alisha Crossley of Alisha Crossley Photography and Amberly Shelton of Amberly Shelton Paperie saw a need that they wanted to fill in the Birmingham wedding industry. This bridal boutique is a collaboration between its three founders to be an upscale wedding referral community with exclusive vendors. Each of the vendors was hand selected by Simply Wed to be a part of its new community. Kathy G & Company and KG Designs are pleased to be a part of this fabulous group of Birmingham wedding professionals!
The Grand Opening party kicked off with a public event that included a number of treats. Steel City Pops provided a variety of its sweet and savory popsicles; Dreamcakes Bakery brought its famous cupcakes, along with mini brownies and mini oatmeal cream pies and Kathy G & Company brought grab and go bags of candied walnuts. Magic City Photo Booths provided fun photos and The Avenda Institute did express manicures.
In the evening, Simply Wed hosted a private vendor party. Kathy G & Company and KG Designs were pleased to be guests at this special event, as well as have the opportunity to showcase what we do best! Kathy G & Company brought two types of hors d’oeuvres to share with guests: Marinated Gulf Shrimp Wrapped in Snow Peas and French Macaroons with Chocolate Buttercream Filling.
KG Designs did two whimsical arrangements with bold oranges, pretty pinks and unique greenery. Feathers and Cat Tails cascaded out the arrangements adding height and dimension. Zig zag cut greenery and a wide variety of succulence added a fresh, organic feature that tied the arrangements together.
Co-owner Amberly Shelton said, “These arrangements were AMAZING! They added so much texture and dimension to the studio. Thank you a million times for sharing your talent and beauty with Simply Wed!”
The entire Kathy G & Company family is excited to be a part of this new adventure with Simply Wed!

KG Designs loves to create beautiful and unique floral designs that encompass the vision of a bride on her special day. Lauren Gulledge chose a crisp, white palette with touches of pink and green for her wedding day florals. From the wreath adorning the door to the flower lined isle, the church was filled with blossoming buds. The flourishing flowers did not stop there – the gorgeous bouquets, boutonnieres and reception arrangements were bountiful. The gorgeous florals were all unique yet classically elegant. Thank you for letting us share in your special day, Lauren!
The Huskey’s hosted a regal rehearsal dinner for their son and his future bride in Selma, Alabama. The beautiful purple lighting hues complimented the crisp, white florals and flawlessly tented space. The ambiance of the room was simply breath-taking. A wide variety of hors d’oeuvres were served to guests along with a selection of delicious mini-sweets.
The Sutton – Price wedding at Sonnet House in Montgomery was an evening to remember! The couple’s outdoor bash utilized splashes of pinks, adding a fun, summer feel. The pink lighting hues really popped and made a chic contrast with the white seating tables and furniture as evening fell. A large ice sculpture with the couple’s hot pink, glowing monogram served as one of the focal points of the reception. The ice sculpture was surrounded by matching pink martini glasses for the special Strawberry-Infused Vodka Martinis.
The traditional, Southern buffet had a unique Asian-inspired twist. In addition to the Mini Hamburgers, BLTs, Vegetable Crudite, Endive Petals, Catfish Cakes, White Cheddar Turkey Biscuits, Stuffed Mushrooms and a Cascading Fruit Display, the couple served Sushi Spoons and had a Thai Noodle Station. The Asian Sushi Spoons held a California Roll with Wasabi and Pickled Ginger. The Thai Noodle Station offered guests Pan Sauteed Vegetables and Rice noodles with Ginger Chicken, Snow Peas, Mung Bean Sprouts, Shiitake Mushrooms, Napa Cabbage, Cilantro, Garlic and Scallions. All of these fabulous ingredients were cooked with Sesame Seed Oil, Soy Sauce, Mirin, Rice Wine Vinegar and Oyster Sauce.
For dessert, the bride had a gorgeous light pink, four-tiered cake with intricate piping and a floral detail. The cake was eye catching and elegant – just like the beautiful bride!
Casey and Simeon wed at the bride’s family home on picturesque Lake Martin. This elegant summer wedding was personal and intimate. Friends and family gathered by the water for a lake-view ceremony. After the “I do’s,” the couple was joined by guests on the patio of the family’s home for the reception.
Under light draping, the tables were covered in blue and tan – complimenting the lake and outdoor space. Gold candelabras, greenery, lanterns and pastel flowers topped the tables. The lush florals complemented the natural beauty of the outdoor space as well as brought in splashes of color. Black and white wedding photographs of the bride and groom’s loved ones hung on the wall near the main dinner table. The candles and strung lights twinkled as evening fell, creating a soft-hearted ambiance.
Hors d’oeuvres of Roma Tomato and Fresh Mozzarella Caprese with Basil Pesto, Crispy Phyllo Tarts with Soy Ginger Thai Flank Steak, Wasabi Creme and Toasted Peanuts; Scallops Ceviche and Citrus Marinated Crab Claws were passed as guests arrived at the reception location.

The dinner was a buffet filled with Herb Crusted Beef Tenderloin with Red Wine Sauce, Chicken Kabob Skewers, BBQ Rubbed Sliced Pork Tenderloin, Rosemary Roasted New Potatoes, Shrimp and Grits, Sauteed Haricot Vert and Succotash.
Simeon chose a dessert table, opposed to a traditional groom’s cake. His table of sweets included Tiramisu with Espresso Creme, Chocolate Mousse and Vanilla Bean Creme Brulee topped with Blueberries. What a sweet treat for guests!
There was definitely love on the lake on Casey and Simeon’s special day. Thank you for letting us celebrate with you!
Melissa Hennessy and Neil Dougherty celebrated their wedding on Saturday with a reception at The Garden’s Café by Kathy G. The drum major groom and the head majorette bride at their alma matter Auburn University have been making memories as a couple for years, which was beautifully depicted at their June 29th reception.
The couple looked to K.G. Designs and Kathy G. & Co. Catering for the event logistics. K.G. Designs created unique centerpieces that told stories about Melissa and Neil’s experiences as a couple. Each centerpiece, rare and picturesque in its own way, painted a portrait of their lives together and gave a glimpse into their happy future. Soft pink roses, baby’s breath and candlelight surrounded each representation of Melissa and Neil.
One centerpiece represented the couple’s trip to Ireland where they collected souvenirs that were used in the centerpiece. The Irish fairy tale book, including the story of The Little Mermaid, and the seashells symbolize their expedition and the memories made there.
To tie this fairy tale wedding together, Melissa and Neil chose a beautiful white cake adorned with light blue, candied roses by Dreamcakes. Atop was the silhouette of Cinderella and her Prince Charming. Kathy G. & Co., K.G. Designs and The Garden’s Café by Kathy G. wish Melissa and Neil a perfect happily ever after!

Kathy G & Company and K.G. Designs, along with A.G. Lighting and Event Rentals Unlimited had the green garden dressed to the nines in all white, silver and candle light. The space was tented in silk white draping tents. In the center of one tent, hung a crystal tiered chandelier that added the perfect splash of glamorous sparkle. Each centerpiece was a combination of pillar candles and antiqued mercury glass of differing heights, shapes and sizes. Delicate white rose and greenery added to the glistening candle lit tables.
Each place setting was adorned with a silver charger, crisp white napkin and a custom designed cookie. The cookie was a portrait of an Edelweiss, the flower of Germany. After getting engaged in Munich and the pair’s decision to move to Berlin for their first fifteen months of marriage while Chris earns his MBA, the Edelweiss became a perfect representation of the couple.
The Middle Eastern meets Southern cuisine was just what the couple ordered! Combining the backgrounds of the Egyptian bride, Gina and the Southern groom, Chris, guests enjoyed a wide variety of foods from both upbringings. The Kathy G team created a fabulous menu that included five stations filled with both Egyptian and Southern treats! The hors d’ouerve Mezze buffet included Crostini, Grilled Bruschetta, Pita Chips and Lavosh served with Tapenade, Mission Fig Puree with Herbed Goat Cheese, Roasted Red Peppers and Golden Raisins and a Hummus selection. Guest also enjoyed Mini Falafel Balls with Tahini Sauce, Rolled Grape Leaves, Lebanese Meat Pies and Israeli Cous Cous. Homemade Sweet Potato Chips with Vidalia Onion Dipping Sauce, Fried Okra, Mini Gulf Coast Crab Cakes, Fried Green Tomatoes and an Heirloom Tomatoes Summer Salad tied in some Southern charm. The carving table with a selection of meats included a Whole Roasted Lamb cooked over Hickory and Cherry Wood, Herb Crusted Beef Tenderloin, Rosemary and Garlic Studded Roasted Top Round of Lamb accompanied by Rice Pilaf with Pine Nuts and Raisins.
The couple’s desert table was no exception to the elaborate culture combining dinner menu. The table was a display of Desert Cheeses with Figs, Grapes and Cherries, Phyllo Pastries that included Baklawa and Halawah with Kaluah Fudge Sauce and Assorted Cake Pops. The breath-takingly elegant four tiered wedding cake by Jan O’Donnell from Wedding Cakes by Jan presented graceful, dainty flower petals that cascaded down the cake.
Guests enjoyed a variety of entertainment throughout the evening. During the dinner portion of the reception, LP Trio set the stylish mood with their jazz numbers. Surprise guest artist, belly dancer Aaliyah Harbin, wowed the crowd with her Middle Eastern performance. After the delectable dinner and desert, guests hit the dance floor to rock out
The bride and groom said their good-byes at the end of the evening with a sparklers farewell. A vintage car from Coats Cars picked up Gina and Chris for a memorable and chic get away!
