“Disco Night” at the Alys Stephens Center!

Friday night, April 1st, the Alys Stephens Center held their biggest fundraiser of the year with disco queens the Pointer Sisters as special-guest headliners.  Kathy G. & Company was “So Excited” to dance on down to the event and cater the Gala Reception for more than 250 revelers in the Daniel Lobby – All with a super-groovy disco theme. In planing the event, we knew we wanted to bring a little bit of Studio 54 to Birmingham – Transforming the Stephens Center so that guests felt as if they were at New York’s iconic 1970’s nightclub. Neon, white leather sofas, and vibrant spotlighting helped add to the “chillax” lounge feel. With “Disco” as the theme and the 1970’s a colorful backdrop, the Kathy G team went all out in designing a”funkadelic” dessert menu that included some “far out” sweets.  There assorted Cakes Pops offered in a rainbow of colors as well as bright green, Key Lime Curd Shots with Brown Sugar Crusts and a garnish of everyone’s favorite 1970’s candy – Pop Rocks!!! And the dessert that had EVERYONE talking was our blue and purple “Tie-Dyed” White Chocolate Mousse – Again with Pop Rock garnish. The Pointer Sisters were AWESOME and we had a “far out” time catering the Gala Reception… Here’s to you joining us all for the Gala next year.  It’s truly a can’t miss event!!! Can you dig it?...

Kathy G Hosts “Food, Fun, & Fabulous” Seminar

Yesterday, Kathy G and assistant event planner, Katelyn Sparks, headed North to Huntsville so that they could take part in the annual “Art in Bloom” festival at the Huntsville Museum of Art.  The three-day festival highlighted visual and floral arts and Kathy was invited to speak on entertaining – Showing attendees how just a little innovation can turn any event into a most memorable occasion. Titled, “Food, Fun, & Fabulous”, Kathy G showed the people of Huntsville why she’s Birmingham’s gold standard when it comes to entertaining. The seminar began with a special video presentation prepared by Lance Holloway of Holloway Productions. In the 3-minute clip, Kathy was shown with her teams as they executed a grand gala that was to be photographed for Alabama Weddings Magazine – All to the sound of the smash hit, “Use Somebody” by the Kings of Leon. (If you’d like to see the video, please click here: http://www.vimeo.com/8253273 After the video, a slide show presentation began with Kathy sharing tips on lighting, the use of fabric and, of course, florals in gorgeous party design. But with Kathy being Kathy, this wasn’t just an ordinary seminar… She doesn’t go unless she’s going all out!! That said, she and Katelyn discussed numerous unique ways of styling food using such items as Asian “To-Go” boxes, martini glasses, grass flats, and edible cones. Kathy also shared some tips on creating exciting bar presentations using citrus fruit to create her signature KG display… …And moss for yet another popular look. But the highlight of the “Food, Fun, & Fabulous” seminar was when Kathy demonstrated the increasingly popular “Floral Bouquet Salad.”  The dish, which is almost as beautiful as it is delicious epitomizes everything “Art in Bloom” represents and truly wowed everyone in attendance. All in all, it was a WONDERFUL experience and one we can’t wait to do again next year! Thanks so much,...
