Cocktails, Dinner, & Dancing at Pointe Ball 2011

One of our favorite annual fundraiser events, The Pointe Ball, was this Saturday, January 29th, at Sak’s Fifth Avenue at the Summit.  With cocktails, dinner, and dancing this elegant event is not only fun – It’s also for a wonderful cause as all proceeds benefit Alabama Ballet’s outreach and education programs. With Sak’s adorned in an elegant combination red & black, nearly 400 guests gathered at the black tie gala for an unforgettable evening. The first course of the gourmet meal consisted of Herbed Poached Shrimp over Peruvian Potato Timble with Local Arugula and Tomato Saffron Vinaigrette. So delicious and tender, the shrimp literally melt in your mouth. The plated-seated meal continued with Grilled Beef Tenderloin Roulade stuffed with Wild Mushroom Duxelle over Root Vegetable Parsnip Puree, Asparagus, and Red Wine Reduction – A meal fit for the local royalty in attendance. Mini tartlettes and assorted chocolate truffles were the perfect dessert selection for such a high class event. Much thanks to the Alabama Ballet Board of Trustees, Board President John Lacey, Honorary Chairwoman Patty McDonald, and Sak’s Fifth Avenue. We’ve been catering the Pointe Ball for many years now, but it is always a new experience. It continues to be an honor and a highlight on our annual calendar and we’re most appreciative of the opportunity to help support the arts. Additional thanks to the more than 40 members of the Kathy G & Company staff who all brought their “A-Game” as the execution of this wonderful event was near flawless. Can’t wait for...

Michelle & Tom – An Engagement Party & SURPRISE Wedding All In One!!!

Tom Ozbirn and Michelle Miller decided they had been single long enough.  So when they called on friends and family members to accompany them for an engagement party at Park Lane this past Saturday night, more than 130 were thrilled to join the celebration. But none of the guests had any idea what was truly in store for them on this wonderful evening. A cocktail hour with passed Hors d’oeuvres of Sweet Potato Beignets with Jack Daniel Dipping Sauce as well as Belgium Endive Leaves with Blue Cheese & Candied Walnuts kicked off the event as everyone mingled in Park Lane’s ample bar area. Once it was clear that all guests had arrived, Tom Ozbirn took the floor and made a short speech.  He thanked everyone for joining he and Michelle on their most special night and then quickly changed gears saying, “Michelle’s been single for fourteen years and I’ve been single nine, but that’s all gonna end tonight!” Jaws dropped and the room immediately filled with excited gasps as well as a chorus of “oohs & aahs” before an endless supply of cheers and applause took over.  Then Michelle, who had slipped away to change, emerged in her gorgeous wedding dress and applause filled Park Lane once more. A priest married the super-cute couple in a Park Lane archway decorated by Andy Hopper of Kathy G Designs. After the brief ceremony, the now married couple kissed and received a warm round of applause from all in attendance. The party quickly moved to the dining room where guests enjoyed a plated-seated dinner of Roasted Red & Golden Beet Stack with Goat Cheese, Arugula, Sweet Garlic Flan and Balsamic as a first course and an entree of Grilled Beef Tenderloin Roulade stuffed with Spinach, Wild Mushrooms, Feta Cheese, over Caramelized Onion Mashed Potatoes, Asparagus, and Port Wine Reduction. Barb’s Cakes provided the delicious wedding cake and a wonderful time was had by all. Neillie Gather of Gather Events brought us this wonderful couple and she really coordinated one heck of an “engagement party” – Best one yet!!! Here at Kathy G & Company, we’re sure to be talking about this event for years to come!  The most fabulous couple and a most wonderful surprise! Congratulations again to Tom and Michelle… Wishing you both a lifetime of abundant love, happiness, and joy.       ALL IMAGES BELOW COURTESY OF ARDEN...

Birmingham’s Mayor Bell Celebrates 1st Year in Office with Kathy G

Last night, the Kathy G contingent made its way downtown for the One2One Community Dinner celebrating the first year in office for Birmingham Mayor, William Bell. More than 120 guests gathered to honor the mayor and dined on some of Kathy G’s most popular dishes including hors d’oeuvres of Mini BLTs with Roma Tomatoes & Apple Smoked Bacon, Herb Roasted Chicken & Fava Bean Pesto on Crostinis and an entrée of Grilled Beef Tenderloin with Caramelized Onion Mashed Potatoes, Steamed Asparagus with Red Wine Veal Demi Reduction. Kathy G Designs also handled the floral for the occasion and our lead designer, Andy Hopper, made sure to adorn every table with the Mayor’s favorite flower – White Cala Lilies. It was quite an honor being selected as catering and design firm for this event. It was particulalry exciting when Kathy G scored a moment of the Mayor’s time for a quick chat and a photo op.  He was a charming man and we very much look forward to having an opportunity to work another of his events in the near...

Kathy G. & Andy Hopper Speak on Unique Presentations for Entertaining

Twice in the last two weeks, Kathy G. has visited with local Garden Clubs to speak about fun and original ideas for entertaining.  During the first week of the new year, the Cherokee Garden Club met up at Park Lane for a delicious lunch and an hour-long talk on unique food presentations.  The Kathy G. chat covered everything from the use of mini pilsners, martini glasses, and cones (both edible & paper) to Asian “to-go” boxes and the recent renaissance of Lazy Susans.  Trust us, they’re making a HUGE comeback! Then on January 18th, the Milbrook Garden Club met with Kathy AND special guest, Andy Hopper of Kathy G Designs at the home of Marian Fitts. Kathy again spoke about food display/presentations while Andy taught everyone a few tricks of his trade – floral design. We had a wonderful turnout all the ladies (and one gentleman) in attendance seemed to learn something new and have a great time. We know we...
